Trinity Woods, New Intergenerational Living Community, Opens to Residents

Dec 15, 2021 | Featured, Leadership, What's New

Trinity Woods, a new intergenerational living community, is welcoming its first residents into their new apartment homes.

Developed by the School Sisters of Notre Dame Central Pacific Province, Mount Mary University, and Milwaukee Catholic Home, Trinity Woods is situated at 9525 West Burleigh Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the Mount Mary University campus. Trinity Woods provides a vibrant, intergenerational living environment for Sisters and seniors, and an educational and supportive housing option for single mothers who are students at Mount Mary University.

“The School Sisters of Notre Dame joyfully anticipate moving into our new home at Trinity Woods,” said Sister Debra Marie Sciano, Provincial Leader of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Central Pacific Province. “We are excited and grateful to create an intergenerational community with our partners from Mount Mary University and Milwaukee Catholic Home, and we look forward to being a vital part of the neighborhood surrounding the campus. In an adaptation of the words of our SSND foundress, Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger, may we continue to serve the Triune God all our lives with joy… to love God and one another as we start this new endeavor together.”

“Mount Mary is very enthusiastic about having the School Sisters of Notre Dame live on our campus,” said Dr. Christine Pharr, President of Mount Mary University. “We know that the Sisters, our students, both the single mothers in Trinity Woods and those studying on campus, will benefit greatly from this innovative intergenerational living facility.”

“We are thrilled to welcome the residents who can now call Trinity Woods home. We are grateful to all those who have been dedicated to planning, design, and construction to bring this beautiful community to life,” said David Fulcher, CEO of Milwaukee Catholic Home.

Trinity Woods offers a continuum of care that honors the whole person at every age and at every stage in life. Intergenerational living involves bringing the young, students, and seniors together by introducing child day care centers, student housing, and senior living residences all in one common facility. The Day Care Center, managed by Wauwatosa Day Care and Learning Center, is open to the public.

The new community is comprised of 52 private residences for the School Sisters of Notre Dame, 24 dormitory units for single mothers enrolled as students at Mount Mary University and their young children under the age of 12, and 90 market-rate, independent living apartments for individuals over age 55. Currently, 70 percent of the 90 independent senior apartments have been reserved. Reservations are being accepted for the remaining one- and two-bedroom senior apartments.

At the heart of the community is the two-story Town Center that incorporates numerous spaces to bring people together in friendly conversation, dining, prayer, learning, and socialization. The Town Center offers an array of amenities and services, including community gathering spaces, full-service dining room, a bistro, salon and spa, a chapel, a fitness center, art studio, an education Center and cinema, a market, and a gift shop. Other community highlights include open green spaces, outdoor walking paths, and private courtyards with gardens and patios that overlook the Mount Mary University woods. Underground heated parking will also be available to residents.

The project developer is Senior Housing Partners of Roseville, Minn., with project architecture design by Plunkett Raysich Architects (PRA) of Milwaukee. The general contractor is VJS Construction of Pewaukee, Wisc. Financing is secured through Northland Securities, Minneapolis, Minn., First Business Bank of Madison, Wisc., and WHEFA (Wisconsin Health and Education Facilities Authority) located in Brookfield, Wisc.
