Milwaukee Catholic Home Honors The Longest day

Jun 10, 2022 | Featured, What's New

June 21st is annually known as the summer solstice, or the day with the most sunlight. But to those who have been impacted by the painful realities of Alzheimer’s, dementia, or memory loss, June 21st is also known as “The Longest Day.” This is the day the Alzheimer’s Association has chosen to “shine a light” on the darkness of Alzheimer’s.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, while more than 6 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million by the year 2050. What’s equally heartbreaking is that 1 in 3 seniors dies of Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, killing more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

Every year on this day, people and organizations from across the world will fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through a fundraising activity of their choice-and Milwaukee Catholic Home is no different! We invite you to join us by setting aside this important day to recognize and raise awareness around the devastating impact of Alzheimer’s.

This year, we will have a raffle to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association! The winner will enjoy a Duffy Boat Tour for 4, complete with appetizers, wine, beer and soda! This special prize includes a wonderful collapsible, portable cooler containing the refreshments.

The tour is approx. 90 minutes and will take place on a mutually agreed upon date. Captain Moe, an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and engaging “Captain,” will be the winner’s host and guide along the river and Harbor, truly adding to the enjoyment of the experience! The total value of this raffle prize is $375.00!

Buying a raffle ticket not only gives you the chance to partake in a unique summer evening in Milwaukee, but it also assures you that you are joining the fight and raising awareness and much needed funds to fight Alzheimer’s. You can purchase your tickets at the Front desk of The Residence at Milwaukee Catholic Home or by contacting Julie Rolfes at 414-220-3217. The drawing will take place on Wednesday, June 29th at the close of our Patio Pops concert that evening – 5 Card Studs!

Because this cause is so important and close to the hearts of our staff, residents, and their families, at Milwaukee Catholic Home, we make it our mission to honor “The Longest Day” and those that are suffering from memory loss every day.

“Everyday Amazing” Milwaukee Catholic Home’s Dementia Care Excellence program, is an integral framework we use in caring for those with memory loss.  Our “Everyday Amazing” philosophy features a variety of approaches that are evidence-based and research-driven. We make it a priority to continually update our programs and offerings to include elements of the latest research in cognitive health and overall wellness that meet the individual needs of our residents.

We invite you to not only participate in this year’s raffle, but to spread the word about The Longest Day on social media and shine a light on the fight against Alzheimer’s. Together, we can truly make a difference and fight this terrible affliction.
