MCH and Catholic Charities Forge “Connections”

Back in October of 2012, a group of staff from Catholic Charities came to Milwaukee Catholic Home for lunch and a tour. As staff from both organizations connected, they realized they had a lot to offer each other. Gradually, an idea took shape – using some of the resources of Catholic Charities’ behavioral health programs, Milwaukee Catholic Home could offer a discussion and support group for residents encountering the changes and transitions that come with aging. The program would be called “Connections.”

Anne Spoerl: Our Circle of Love

Dorothy is one of the hundreds of persons whose spirit will forever remain as part of our Milwaukee Catholic Home community. She was a single lady in her nineties who moved into our Health and Rehabilitation Center when challenges of immobility and self-care made it impossible for her to safely continue living in her East Side home. “I’ve outlived all my family and friends,” she told me on the day that I first met her. “I feel so alone.”

With her winsome smile and quick sense of humor, Dorothy began to touch the hearts of staff and residents who came to know her as the days went on.

DSHA and MPS Students Learn and Give at MCH

Here at Milwaukee Catholic Home, we are constantly pursuing new opportunities for intergenerational programming, and love to develop new partnerships in the community that make these opportunities possible.
This month, we’re also excited to host a student volunteer from Divine Savior Holy Angels High School as part of the school’s brand new service learning initiative: Vocare.

Extreme Makeover: Steinway Edition

Our piano is getting a makeover! With support from our residents, we began raising money last year to upgrade our pianos in the Residence building. The performing and fine arts are a central part of life at Milwaukee Catholic Home, and we often host exceptional musicians who need instruments that match their expertise. In addition, the piano in our chapel plays a key part in our liturgical celebrations on a weekly basis.
