How to Mark a Milestone: Celebrate and Adapt

My wife and I recently celebrated an important milestone: our 15th wedding anniversary.  We had a great time looking back at the past 15 years and the memories we’ve created together.

However, it’s important to remember that an anniversary like this isn’t an ending, and it isn’t really about the past.  It’s about the present and the future.  It’s a re-commitment, or even a re-invention.  My wife and I have each changed in different ways over the course of our marriage, and as our needs, abilities, strengths and weaknesses change, our commitment to each other means that we adapt to those changes and renew our understanding of how we live out our marriage in daily life.

Our 100 year anniversary at Milwaukee Catholic Home is like that too.  We have spent some great time looking back, recognizing our many achievements and the people who have been part of our community over the course of a century.  But this is also an opportunity for us to look forward to the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.  We’ve had to adapt quite a bit to the changing needs of the older adult population over the course of our history, but we’re anticipating even bigger changes ahead, changes that will challenge us to be innovative and to find new ways to serve.

Our Board of Directors is entering into a period of strategic planning, looking ahead to the next several years and how we can best position ourselves in a difficult marketplace.  We are confident that the things that have made Milwaukee Catholic Home great for 100 years – meaningful experiences, strong community, and a spirit of faith and generosity – will continue to provide a great framework for planning a future of service.

Of course, don’t think the partying is going to stop – it’s one of the things we do best, and we’re going to take full advantage of our three years of celebration.  Coming up this month, we’ll be holding our 100th annual corporate meeting, and we plan to mark it with lots of great food, drink and fellowship.  If you’d like to become a corporate member, or haven’t renewed your membership yet, don’t forget to give Anne a call at (414) 220-3250.  We look forward to seeing you this month and at all of our great events in the year 2014!
