MCH and Clement Manor Form Joint Ethics Committee

Nov 30, 2015 | Leadership

From new technologies to advanced treatments to different communication methods – the contemporary health care and long term care industries have faced unique challenges and complexities in recent decades. As a Catholic institution, Milwaukee Catholic Home is committed to navigating these challenges with the highest standards of ethical practices in the light of Church teaching. To support this effort, Milwaukee Catholic Home has partnered with Clement Manor, a Catholic retirement community on Milwaukee’s south side, in the formation of a joint ethics committee.

Both organizations have committed to a central purpose statement to guide the activities of the joint ethics committee. Our shared goals include providing opportunities for reflection and recommendations about ethical and moral issues, facilitating educational materials and programs, and providing guidance for organizational practices and policies.

Our first meeting was held on November 15th, and laid the groundwork for many fruitful conversations to come. To prepare for the meeting, members were asked to participate in a webinar on medically administered nutrition and hydration from the Catholic Health Association. The CHA, of which Milwaukee Catholic Home is an active member, is an national network and resource for Catholic health care institutions.

We look forward to continued work with Clement Manor in this important and exciting undertaking!
